For this first birthday cake I started with a half sheet of marble cake, froze the cake overnight to make cutting it out easier. Then I drew a quick paper pattern of a large number “one” that used up most of the cake and layed it onto the cake.
Next I cut the cake in the shape of the pattern with a sharp knife while the cake was still frozen. I frosted it with homemade buttercream frosting and also added blue coloring to a small batch to make the decorative features. The fish, turtle, and shark are gummies, and the bubbles are spots of the blue frosting.
I am not a cake maker by any means, but I am a loving father of his first child. My wife and some of her family didn’t believe me when I said I was going to make my son’s first cake!
nice to see a dad get that involved, not often daddy bakes the birthday cake!
Your son must be proud to have a dad like you. Keep up the good work and I hope to see you making more cakes.
did you frost the cake after it thawed out or while it was still frozen?
i love that u did this for ur sons first bday! cute cake awesome proud dad!!=)
Thats so cool and touching, everyone things i should buy my baby’s first cake but i think it unfair cos we attended the cake making class together when he was just six months old.
