A friend of mine wanted a “fish” cake for her son’s birthday. After looking at several different fish cake photos, we decided to combine several different ideas. The “plaque” is made from a torted sheet cake. I smoothed the buttercream icing using paper towels and a fondant smoother until it resembled a wood plaque.
I sculpted the fish shape out of a 1/2 layer cake and covered the fish body and head with white fondant which I then painted with food coloring. The fins and tail are pieces of cake left over after cutting out the fish body. I iced them using my basket weave tip. The eye is a piece of fondant.
The cake was awsome, and it taste as good as it looks. Great job!!
For a cake this has such great detail. Looks just like a real mounted fish. Looks like a great deal of effort went into this cake. Great Job.
