I made this Fishing Birthday Cake for my father in law. It was a 10 inch round chocolate cake with a filling of chocolate butter cream and vanilla butter cream to crumb coat the cake.
I covered the whole cake in green fondant then added a layer of blue to create the water. I made the figure out of fondant icing the day before to allow this to dry. The fish I made out of colored marzipan and then sprayed them with a little gold lustre spray. I used a garlic press to make the green fondant bushes and a wooded skewer covered in black fondant to make the rod and cotton thread the make the fishing line.
I added a little green colored coconut to cover the join of the blue and green, reeds were made using wire and a little chocolate fondant and flowers and lily pads to add a bit of detail.
I finished the cake off with colored marzipan rocks and chocolate letters. It went down a treat and was a really nice tasting cake.
