My mum is a florist and I have always wanted to make here a florist shop cake. This florist cake was the end result. I had a vague idea of what I wanted it to look like but a lot of it evolved as I went along.
The cake was a Madeira cake with butter cream icing with 3 layers. I needed the extra height for the shop front. I ‘dirty iced it’ first and then put the fondant on to create a smooth (ish) base.
I used gelatine sheets with the criss cross patterns for the windows cut to size and painted a pretend interior to the shop. Made the window frames and painted them and then applied this to the front of the cake. The same applied to the door.
I made rice crispie treats and molded them into two boxes for the stands and then covered those with fondant.
All the flowers were made with petal paste as where the containers. The basket was made of homemade modelling chocolate. It was pretty firm compared with the shop bought variety but worked. The only non edible elements were the wires for the flowers and price tickets and the two wooden screwers used to support the green and white rice paper awning.
I made a figure using modelling chocolate and it all turned out pretty much how I imagined!
My mum cried when she saw it, which was a good thing I think. She also kept all the flowers!
