I made this flower birthday cake for my mum’s 90th birthday as she loved anemones. They are good fun to make and come in such a wide range of beautiful colors.
I started with a basic 10 inch Victoria sponge and covered it with white fondant icing! The anemones are also made with fondant icing colored with various edible icing colorants. It ts best to make the flowers a week or so before so that they can dry and then you can dust them with edible lustre dust to enhance and bring out the lovely colors.
The stamens are not edible but can be purchased from any cake decorating suppliers and are just cut down to whatever size is needed and stuck in around the black icing center.
As this my first attempt at anemones I was quite chuffed with the end result and needless to say my mum was thrilled with her cake.
