I wanted to make a flower cake for my grandmother that she would remember and not knowing to much about decorating I decided to give it a whirl anyway.
I saw a picture on Wilton’s cake decorating book that she really loved but I didn’t have the directions for it so I ran with my imagination to try and get it as close to what it looked like as I could.
I used Duncan Hines cake mixes, three of them and made a three layer cake. I made the Wilton’s recipe for the homemade buttercream: four cups of confectioners sugar, 1 tsp. no-color vanilla extract, 2 Tbs. milk, 1 stick butter and 1/2c. shortening.
I frosted each layer with buttercream (white ) and for the outside layer I put a little lavender food coloring.
The roses, I made 40 of then to cover the top. Using the buttercream icing and tips 104 and 12.
for the dots on the side I used tip #3.
It was as close to the picture as I could get except it was shown in mauve.
