Coolest Football Field Cake

I made this Football Field cake for my fiance’s 22nd Birthday. I did it last minute after I ran across the extremely inexpensive plastic toppers (the football players, field goals)at Party City.

I had planned on making him a two layer round cake so when I found these pieces and decided to do a theme for him I didn’t even think about the fact that I should use my rectangular cake pans.

The football players had a square thing their feet were attached to, I simply pushed those into the cake and covered with icing.

When icing the cake I simply tapped the knife (on its side)on and off of the cake to make it look a little more like grass.

If I did anything differently it would definitely be to use rectangle cake pans and possibly a little more detail.

Note: the plastic pieces came with many more football players and another field goal. I didn’t use these because of my space limit on my round cake.
