My daughter’s 3rd birthday was approaching and we were trying to decide on what to make for her cake! My daughter had taken a liking to a green frog that decided to live in our bathroom so we decided a frog it was!
I had already purchased the Wilton Butterfly cake tin and discovered that with a printable template that you can obtain online you can turn the butterfly cake tin into a frog!
The cake tin took 2 packet mixes to fill. Once the cake had baked and cooled I went about icing it! I used a buttercream icing which was very easy to make and used Wilton food colourings which are so vibrant and great to use! I first of all iced the sides with a blue colour using an icing spatula.
I piped the buttercream – following the directions from the template – very easy and probably only took around 1 – 1 1/2hrs to ice. For the eyes I used a mix of icing sugar and water and moulded it into a thick texture and shaped the eyes from it and then added black food colour to the thick icing mixture and made the black part of the eyes! Very easy and very effective! Around the base of the cake I piped a basic edge to finish it off!
This Homemade Frog Birthday Cake Idea was very easy to make and the kids loved it! It was a hit at the party that’s for sure!
