My son has been into garbage trucks for sometime and when I asked what sort of cake he wanted for his 3rd birthday, sure enough he said a garbage truck birthday cake. I thought I’d better try and although it took me quite a few hours to decorate I was very pleased with the outcome.
I baked two packet chocolate cakes and then cut the shape from this. I then made a double batch of butter icing and added yellow and red colouring to get the orange. To begin with it looked very pink but just adding more colouring eventually it got to orange. I used white icing for the windows and did the black edging with licorice.
The wheels were pieces of cake topped with chocolate biscuit and then with a white marshmallow on top. My son was really pleased with his cake and knew straight away what it was which was good! I just took my time and it turned out okay.
My son and I are checking out cakes and he thinks your’s is the coolest. He likes the color. He REALLY wanted a cake AND the trash can, so the can on the side was a great idea. Also, I like putting his age on the truck. Thanks for the idea!
Hi I was wondering it you baked the 2 chocolate cakes in one big pan or two small ones and you combined them? Beautiful job!
Thanks so much for posting photos of your great looking cake! I’m making it for my soon-to-be three year old right now. He picked it out as his favorite!
