This George Pig Birthday Cake is for my son’s third birthday! He is a huge Peppa pig fan and thus I decided on attempting making him George!
I made four small round Victoria sponge cakes, filled with jam and cream. Two I used for the head, one for the body and one (which I didn’t bother filling!) for the little extra bits to add on- his ears, and the dinosaur and his boots.
I used fondant icing in pink blue and green and squeezy icing in white and black for the eyes and boots! The hardest part was making George’s face look like him and getting his expression right, after several attempts at a mouth with teeth I settled for a little smiley face but I think it captures his character! The dinosaur didn’t quite go to plan, in that his bottom jaw fell off, but it looked the part anyway!
My son’s expression was a picture and his massive excited “wow!!” made the 6 hours it took just to ice, worthwhile!
Georges head!
His head is a round cake with an ‘extra’ bit added on for his nose and to get the shape right. i made it out of paper first then cut it out. I then iced with pink fondant.
Ears!
Made from the spare sponge, again cut out from templates I drew on paper and iced pink separately. A bit fiddly!
Body!
The second round cake is the body with a little bit cut out to connect to his head. Then to ice blue and attempt a dinosaur….
Dinosaur!
Again a bit fiddly and in hindsight could’ve cut it out of rolled icing rather than trying to make it out of sponge and then ice!! The scales are just triangles cut out and placed on his back!
