This was my second attempt at a fondant cake. I had hoped that doing a more square shape would be easier to cover. I made two white cakes and inverted one on top of the other, filling them with buttercream frosting and peach preserves.
I layered the gift box cake with a crumb coat of the buttercream frosting. Then I covered the cake with green fondant. I had trouble when I got to the last corner. I had to fold the pieces of fondant in on themselves and I could not get rid of the seam. I cut burgundy strips and molded them into teardrop shapes and allowed them to dry. I put these on with a bit of water to make a ribbon. I cut strips of the burgundy fondant to make ribbons going across the top and the sides of the cake.
It was a hit at the party I took it to, and had a request to make another for our next gathering.
