This golf course cake was actually very simple to make. I made a 9×13 sheet cake from a mix and then frosted it with store-bought frosting tinted green, except for the strip of black for the cart path, which was the same frosting dyed black using special food dye I bought at a cake decorating store.
The rough in the upper left corner is coconut dyed green. I gave the grass texture with a fork and smoothed the green carefully with a rubber spatula. I poked a hole in the green with a wide straw so that the chocolate cake showed through. The water hazard was frosted white and then filled in with blue cake decorating gel. The sand trap was frosted white and then filled in with cookie crumbs (I put Nilla Wafers in a Ziploc bag and rolled them with a rolling pin to get fine, even crumbs).
I added additional frosting to the sides to make slope to the edge of the cardboard tray underneath. The golf cart, golfer, trees, flag, and ball are all purchased at a cake-decorating store. It was a huge hit!
Love it!
what cake decorating store did you use??
I am giving my boyfriend a surprise party for his 33rd and I am going to try to do this one. THANKS
