I wanted to do an original cake for my brother in law’s 55th birthday. As he was a massive golf fan I decided on a golf bag. Looking through the golf bag pictures nothing was inspiring me, so I decided to go for a different idea and made this golf themed cake.
I started off by making round sponge cakes, then cooked a rectangle Swiss roll cake and a round one. The round one became my bunker. I used a glass bottle to mold the bag.
All the cake is edible except from the ribbon, and the board. I used sponge to make the golf clubs, the golf ball and the numbers. The tees are made out of rolling icing.
I used a chocolate butter-cream frosting to sandwich the bottom two cakes, and made a green butter-cream icing for the top. The golf bag got filled with the frosting, so that everything stuck together. The bunker is colored rolling icing, and the golf bag, and clubs are all colored with rolling icing.
I colored all the icing myself, it took a long time to complete, but I loved my masterpiece in the end, and my brother in law loved it too. He told me that it was the first time that someone had made him a homemade cake, as everyone else has purchased them from shops.
