I made this Grateful Dead Steel Your Face cake for my dad’s 50th birthday. I wanted it to be something special and since he’s a big Dead Head I wanted it to reflect that!
This cake was made by baking two sheet cakes. One for the bottom layer, which was kept whole, and one for the top layer which was cut into the shape I needed. I made the layers different layers so there was a variety of cake for our guests.
First I spread buttercream frosting over the entire thing for a smooth foundation. Then I covered just the top layer of the cake with white Fondant. I printed a picture off the internet for my original & used it to eyeball my design. I outlined all the larger features with black fondant, and painted the details on using a mixture of sweetened condensed milk & food coloring.
Everyone loved it!
VERY cool!
That is amazing!
This cake is truly amazing if I ever get married I would love to to pay you to do a Grateful Dead wedding cake.
I’m a huge dead head fan too and i want to make this for my 18 bday party!
TOTALLY MINT!
I’d have to say that is the coolest cake I’ve ever seen. Love it. Amazing job.
I’d really like to make a similar cake for my boyfriend who’s birthday is in the beginning of March. I was wondering where you printed your Steely from.
I’M MAKING ONE SIMILAR TO THIS ONE TODAY, EXCEPT I’M MAKING THE ONE WITH JUST THE LIGHTNING BOLT. I’LL POST A PICTURE WHEN I GET IT DONE! HOPE IT TURNS OUT GOOD!
how did you make it ?
