I made this Guitar Birthday Cake for my Mother-in-Law’s 70th Birthday. I have made many celebration cakes but this is the first guitar-shaped cake I have tried.
I made an 8″ round, a 6″ round and a 6″ square cake, then cut and shaped them together. I brushed some orange jam onto the surface and covered it with sugar paste, which I coloured using food colouring paste (making a ‘wood’ grain by adding some darker brown and not blending it in completely). I made the butterflies from sugar paste and painted patterns on them with a fine brush.
After I had piped the strings, the fun started! When I moved the cake onto a table the strings broke into little pieces as the two boards I had joined together were not quite level.
I had to redo the strings which was a bit of a pain.
I used a large storage box to transport the cake and luckily it reached the party without any strings breaking!
WOW…THAT CAKE CAME OUT JUST GORGEOUS! YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF YOURSELF, ONE OF THE NICEST GUITAR CAKES I HAVE EVER SEEN!
Thank you so much for your lovely comments!
