This is the Homemade Guitar Birthday Cake Design I made for my brother-in-law’s 30th birthday. He plays a blue Ibanez Talman guitar, so I got a picture of one and blew it up to about 1/2 the size of the actual guitar so I could get the shape right.
I made it in two parts – the body and the neck, then coated both pieces in dark chocolate ganache and joined them together. I used a small serrated knife to get the texture down the neck of the guitar, and used ready made black fondant for the head of guitar and around the sides of the body, and then used Wilton royal blue colouring to make the blue fondant for the middle of the body.
For the silver pieces, I made the shapes from fondant and rolled them in silver pearl dust (Wilton), used white piping icing for some of the trimmings, used the pearl dust to highlight the frets, and used some metallic gold embroidery thread for the strings.
First time making a guitar cake, and I’m stoked with the result!!!
