My grandson, Kyler, wanted a Rock Star birthday cake for his third birthday. His mom and I search the internet for ideas. We found the coolest Rock Star guitar picture and decided to duplicate as a guitar cake.
I baked Wilton’s 11×13 sheet cake for the body of the guitar and a loaf pan cake for the guitar’s neck. I created an enlargement of the body of the guitar and cut the 11x 13 sheet cake to scale. I added the loaf cake and trim it to resemble the neck. I froze the cake at this point… since the cut edges of the cake are much easier to ice once frozen.
His mother rolled the fondant, cut out the stars and painted them with Wilton’s food color. To add glitz to the cake, irridescent sprinkles were dusted generously over the entire cake.
