My 6 year old daughter drew a picture of what she wanted her birthday guitar cake to be this year. This prompted a whole black and red, rock and roll theme for her 7th birthday. I pretty much stuck to her original design with just a little added black for contrast (mom’s artistic license).
I started with a 16″ round cake covered in homemade cream cheese icing and topped with red fondant. I piped the edges with red and black stars.
I used a mold for the guitar and placed the guitar cake on top of the round cake. Before putting the fondant on the bottom cake I placed 2 glass custard cups (upside down) in the cake. These acted as support for the guitar so it wouldn’t sink into the bottom cake. I’m learning from prior mistakes :)
I piped the guitar with black and red Wilton tube icings. The smooth parts are the same icing that I tapped with my cornstarched fingertip. The cake was a hit and my daughter was thrilled.
Your cake turned out great! My son is turning one & wants something different from your typical sheet cake! Anyway’s, was wondering where you got the guitar mold?
