This Handy Manny’s Toolbox Cake was for my son’s 2nd birthday in 2009. I used a 9×13 cake base and created the sides from red poster board and painted dowel rods to secure it. The characters are individually shaped sugar cookies (shaped before baking) and iced with regular frosting, using a #3 round tip to outline.
Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that the cookies soften overnight and we had to attach them to wax paper wrapped foam core to keep them sturdy. My son loved it though and grabbed a cookie before even tasting the cake!
This cake looks great! I’m going to make it for my son’s 2nd Birthday. How long did it take you?
