This was a homemade Hannah Montana Guitar birthday cake.
I made it out of two cakes: one in a baker’s sheet pan and one in a 13″ x 9″ cake pan. I always make my cakes the night before and put them in the freezer over night; it keeps them moist and makes them easier to sculpt.
The next day, I used the large cake for the body of the guitar. I used brown food coloring to paint an outline of the design and a sharp knife to cut out the body. It took a total of about three hours to decorate the cake. I started in the middle with white, then covered the rest with the purple.
Later, I sculpted the second cake into the neck of the guitar and covered that in white and purple. The piping came last. It took quite a while to complete this cake, but it was a huge hit at my niece’s fourth birthday party!
