I found pictures I liked of Hello Kitty then enlarged them and printed on regular white paper to fit my cake pan for this Homemade Hello Kitty Birthday Cake. I need two 8 1/2x 11 sheets to fit my pan, I just tape them together. I then taped the paper copy to counter and using wax or parchment paper over the paper design, I traced the design in black or brown icing onto the wax/parchment paper. Keep in mind that it will transfer in reverse…I use Wilton black icing in a tub using a small round tip. I then cut the “white paper” copy on outside outline and placed on cake and cut cake to shape.
I crumb coated the cake. I placed the wax/parchment paper that has the black icing onto the cake and press. When you lift back off, the outline is on cake then you know what to actually pipe on the cake… where eyes, nose, whiskers, etc…go. Then I used the small star tip and filled in. This one I used sparkles to make the dark pink to pop and add a little fun.
I made big white cutout cookies for the balloons.
