This Hello Kitty Birthday cake was made for one of my niece’s 1st birthday party. I am a huge fan of Hello Kitty so I thought it would be the perfect theme for her party.
The cake is a 9″ two layer round yellow cake, the mix was store bought. I then put a thin layer of buttercream icing and let it set in the refrigerator. The buttercream recipe came from Wilton it was made with 4C. powdered sugar, 1/2C. solid veg.shortening, 1 stick of butter, 2 TB milk, 1 ts. clear vanilla.
I then rolled out my fondant and covered the entire cake, smoothing it out immediately. I let the fondant-covered cake set in the refrigerator uncovered for 2-3 hours before decorating the cake. Once the fondant set I used Wilton’s gel icing in black to draw the kitty’s whiskers and outline the nose.
The nose was filled with Wilton’s gel icing in yellow. I made the kitty’s hairbow out of white fondant and sprayed it with Wilton’s food coloring mist in pink. The cake was finished by bordering the cake with yellow stars using Wilton’s decorating icing in lemon yellow. The cake was a hit!
