I made this Hello Kitty cake for my daughter’s 3rd birthday. I used a regular sheet cake for the whole cake. I then iced the entire cake with regular store bought icing, and used Wilton’s food coloring.
After icing the whole cake,I then got a spatula and dipped it in milk to get a real “glossy look. I printed out a picture of “Hello Kitty” and used a toothpick to stencil out the shape of the head.
To get the real white color of the head I used Wilton’s white food coloring. I then used Wilton’s star tips to fill in the entire Hello Kitty, make sure to keep freezing the cake throughout the decorating process because the icing will melt and you will not get a good design.
The eyes and the bow were also stenciled in with toothpicks, and decorated with the same star tip. Occasionally freeze your icing when it starts to get warm because you get a “cleaner” look from icing that is harder. I then used black licorice for the whiskers. The key to getting the Hello Kitty to look right is to put the whiskers down lower and in the correct placing, this makes for a cute and easy cake!
