I started by sizing out a print out of the Hogwarts crest I got online. Once I blew it up to the size I wanted, I cut it out and used it as a template to trim my 10″ round cake. Next I base iced in white traditional and added the house colors to the backround. Using my little spatula I added texture to the colors.
Next I added then gold trimmed and separated the color sections as well as adding the gold square for the hogwarts “H”. Using a ribbon tip I added the top border, smoothing with a finger tip dipped in corn syrup (one of my new favorite tricks!).
Next I cut out the pictures of the house animals from the print out and traced them with a toothpick, followed the tracing with black frosting and filled with the appropriate color.
Somehow I managed to impress myself this time, lol! And my 6 year old is super psyched for his party this weekend!
where did you find the pictures of the animals?
I am about to embark on a Hogwarts birthday cake for my stepson, who is turning 9. I hope it’s okay with you if I steal your ideas…it is just beautiful! I am assuming you used fondant or modeling chocolate for the colors? Anyway, you did a fabulous job-when it first came up on my image search I thought it was a professional cake. Congratulations-and thank you for posting it!
