My daughter was determined to have a Homemade Barbie Birthday Cake like the ones in the store, but they were way too expensive so my task began. As she really wanted to have a Barbie Island Princess cake, I used the doll she had, pictured on the left, as a guideline. This is the homemade Barbie cake I created for my daughter’s fourth birthday party.
I used a glass measuring cup to bake the cake, which was, in fact, the bottom part of the dress from the doll’s waist down. I then wrapped another Barbie, unclothed, in cellophane and, making a very slight cut in the middle of the cake, gently pushed her down into it. I didn’t want to cut a hole since she may not have stayed standing.
I put a zip lock bag over her body as I decorated the cake, so her hair and the rest of her upper body didn’t get covered with icing. You need a steady hand but it turned out amazingly well, I think. I put icing on her upper body as well and used silver candy balls to decorate. I also used a toothpick to draw on the scrolls on her dress. I even put a necklace around her neck with icing and gold candy balls. My daughter LOVED it!
