This Guitar cake was made for my niece’s thirteenth birthday. Her favorite colors are red and black.
First, I drew a template for a guitar. Next, I baked two large sheet cakes. Once cool, I carved out the pieces for the guitar. I used buttercream frosting for the cake.
I rolled out red fondant for the face plate and then added the following non-edible items: golf tees for the tuning keys and metallic thread for the strings. Foil-wrapped peanut butter cups became the knobs on the guitar and a sugar wafer cookie, also wrapped in tin foil, became the bar to which the strings are attached.
I carefully counted and used ball-top straight pins to secure the strings in place. I made sure I removed all of them before cutting the cake!
Lastly, I dusted the cake with black edible glitter.
