My son always chooses his own birthday theme, and this year he wanted a Monster Truck cake for his fifth birthday party. I make all my kids’ cakes each year and turn to this website for ideas. After browsing the many ideas on here, I chose the Monster Truck cake that used a mini-table for the platform. However, I would point out here that I found I needed more cake than that specified in the recipe so had to modify the size somewhat.
I baked a 1/2 sheet cake for the body and a 9″ x 13″ for the cab. I looked for a 6″ bundt pan for the tires, but couldn’t find one. Luckily, these chocolate mini-bundt cakes, which I used for the tires, are sold at a local grocery. I froze both layers to ease the trimming and shaping. It really wasn’t very hard and I was happy with the results.
Thank you for posting the picture of how you supported your cake. It really helped me out. Your cake came out awesome, I hope I can make one half as good!
This cake is really cute, I am trying to make a similar monster truck for my son’s birthday, but I cannot figure out how to make the platform (the size & lengths, how did you do it?
