This Homemade Sleeping Beauty Birthday Cake was quite easy to make. My seven year old granddaughter decided she would like Sleeping Beauty this year so the first thing I made was the figure. Once this had hardened I proceeded to dress her and kept it safe until I made the actual cake.
I used an 8″ square tin and made up a sponge mix containing 8 ozs each of flour, margarine caster sugar and four eggs. Once the cake had cooled it was removed from the tin. The next day I cut off about two inches along one side to make it look more like a bed. The piece that I cut off I put along the width of one end to make the bed a bit longer.
The cake was then covered in fondant and then the pillow and frills added on the sheet. I covered the board in green fondant then placed the bed onto the board. The day before the party Sleeping Beauty was added.
It was great fun making the cake and my granddaughter loved it. Good luck if you have a go at this cake and I hope you enjoy making it as much as I did.
