I made this Hula Girl cake for my cousin’s third birthday.
I used a 9″ x 13″ pan for the base of the cake and a pyrex bowl for the Hula dress. I cut a hole in the middle of the dress and put the doll in. I used color icing to make the blue water. I used a grass cake decorating tip to make the green texture of the skirt.
I printed her name on paper then covered it with wax paper and traced it with royal icing. I made tabs on each letter so they would stand upright. I used a flower cut-out to make the gum paste flowers, then let them sit overnight in an egg carton to harden.
I put chocolate chips on the tips of toothpicks, rolled them in crushed Graham crackers and made the flames for the Tiki torches. I used the crushed Graham crackers for the sand under the Hula girl and Swedish Fish in the water to complete the theme.
