I made this Homemade Iggle Piggle Birthday Cake for my son’s 3rd birthday, he was absolutely obsessed with In The Night Garden at that time so I knew it would be a hit. I made a large slab cake using 2 packets of Betty Crocker’s Devils Food cake mix. I enlarged a picture of Iggle Piggle from a book and used that as my template to cut out his shape.
I used buttercream icing mixed to 4 different shades of blue using blue and purple liquid colours (I prefer powders but couldn’t get them in time so the blue colours did fade overnight and weren’t as obvious as they were originally). Using a colour picture of Iggle Piggle as a guide I iced the cake and then used a bit of uncoloured icing for the eyes and black licorice for the pupils and mouth. I used 4 red jellybeans for his hair and his blanket was made using a piece of red felt.
It didn’t take too long and was well worth the effort as my son and his friends loved it.
