This Jake and The Neverland Pirates is a cake I did for a “cool” little boy that is turning 7, who also happens to be a huge Jake and The Neverland Pirates fan. The cake was a chocolate swirl cake. This was a two layered cake. Using the first box of cake mix, I followed directions to mix up the ingredients (use milk instead of water to make the cake more moist and add a teaspoon of meringue powder) and then bake the cake.
Once the cake was baked, I removed from pan and placed it on a cake board. I then mixed the second cake mix (same as the first) and once it was baked and cooled, I placed butter cream icing on the cake already on the board and then I placed the second cake on top of the first using the icing to separate the two. Using butter cream icing, I covered the cake with white icing. I found a copy of Jake with his sword (coloring pages are great sources to use for this) and copied it to the size desired. I then traced it onto the cake.
The inside facial features are always the hardest part for me so after I traced the outline onto the cake, I cut the picture in pieces (hair, face, eyes, mouth, etc) and layed them on the cake. This helped me to better accent the features. I used a tip 5 and black icing to create the outline. Then I filled in the outlined parts with a tip 16 and with the colored icing to match the picture. I piped red boarder around the outside of the cake to create the boarder.
This was the first “Jake and The Neverland Pirates” cake I have ever attempted but I think it turned out pretty well.
