I made this cake for my granddaughter’s 10th birthday party. The cake is 2 chocolate 9×13″ cakes, leveled and stacked with strawberry jam in the middle (her favorite), basic royal icing colored pink to match the real jewelry box gift we gave her.
I cut off a piece at the front to make the drawer. Strawberry wafer cookies to form the sections and build up the sides on the top, but they started to split so I used sour fruit strips to cover that up. The lid is a piece of cardboard, covered with foil and iced. I used a dollar-store mirror in the middle.
To insert the lid, I stuck long skewers in to the cardboard and then stuck it in the cake at the very last minute. I filled the cake with ePop rings and candy necklaces, plus some jewelry tinkets from the Dollar store. Couldn’t find a ballerina for the middle but the Disney princess was a suitable alternate!!
Her stand is melted pink chocolate wafers. The kids couldn’t wait for her to blow out the candles so they could devour the candies!!
Thank you for posting this. I just love this cake. I think I might give this a try for my sister’s birthday.
