This jungle safari cake was made for son’s 5th birthday. Number of cakes baked: 2 yellow – 9X13 sheet cake, 1 round cake using Pyrex glass bowl for creating dome on the top. I made green trees using ice-cream cone and green royal icing. Sand was created using brown sugar; waterfall was created using gel and blue color. Took lots of ideas from https://www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com website.
I made the trees a few days in advance so that royal icing is set on the cone and trees have firm structure. I filled the cake with pineapple filling and covered the cake with green butter cream icing. On the day of the birthday I organized the cake by adding safari animals from local craft store used jelly beams as stones and rocks around the mountain. Grass on the cake was done using the grass tip.
People were amazed to see the safari cake and my son loved it! He was totally surprised and very happy. It was lot of hard work and lot of planning required but at the end of the day it was totally worth it! I got so many compliments and lots of motivation to bake more wonderful cakes in future.
