This is a cake that I made for my 25th birthday party, a Kill Bill Themed birthday cake with yellow and black fondant. It’s a three layer red velvet cake, with marshmallow butter cream frosting and marshmallow fondant. The cake itself was made entirely from scratch, and the frosting was almost entirely from scratch (I used marshmallow fluff in a jar.)
It took about 4 and a half hours to make in total, and my guests really loved it. I used 8 inch square cake pans, and made the fondant by adding marshmallow fluff to confectioner’s sugar and kneaded until strong enough to roll out. Then I used Wilton’s gel food coloring to add color to the fondant. The frosting was made also with Marshmallow fluff, unsalted butter, pure vanilla extract, and confectioner’s sugar.
Once the cake was layered and frosted and the fondant was applied, I mixed Wilton’s red gel food coloring with a little bit of water, and using a spoon, added drops and splatters of “blood” all over the cake.
To finish the cake, I printed the note on a regular piece of notebook paper and created a mini samurai sword using a pair of chopsticks, some black thread, and some gold foil-backed paper.
