This Lazy Town Purse Cake was for my daughter’s 6th birthday. The Lazytown cartoon was only out in the US for about 6 months when she had her birthday and I searched everywhere for Lazytown party supplies but couldn’t find anything!
Her favorite character was Stephanie so we started with that. I made a costume for her and purchased a pink wig and trimmed it into a bob. I then glued jewels to a burgundy fabric headband. She was able to wear the costume again for Halloween.
For the cake, we made Stephanie’s purse and carried the purse theme throughout the party. I baked a 9×13 cake and trimmed a skinny piece off of the end to put on top of the cake for the purse flap. The cake is iced in frosting tinted pink, then I used a texturizing tool to get the two different textures. A lighter pink frosting was used for the writing and for the heart, and then pink sugar was used on the alternating stripes in the heart.
I used red shoestring licorice for the purse handle and peeled pieces off to outline the heart and for the stripes. A foil covered chocolate egg was used for the purse clasp. The entire cake was put on a clear acrylic board cut to about 11×15 and the Happy Birthday was piped directly on that.
My daughter loved it even if most people didn’t know who she was!
What an awesome idea! My daughter loves Stephanie, too! Do you happen to have a pattern or something from how you made the dress? I’m at a loss at where to start and not great with sewing. Please let me know.
