This Lego Birthday Cake Idea I nearly gave up on. I thought too hard about it and started to panic. I scoured the web for as many tips as I could and picked out what I liked.
Supermarket- buy royal icing bricks.
Cake shop- buy food colouring gel. Expensive at first but will last for many cakes to come. I started with primary colours because that’s Lego!
A week before, knead the colouring into the icing until desired colour is achieved. Wrap in cling film and store in airtight container.
Tips
Bake a cake of choice. Mine was a combo of two cakes. Banana with choc chip, and then plain chocolate. Freeze the cakes.
Cut into shapes when frozen with electric knife. Do things like a sculpture. Round the edges and stuff. Keep frozen while you make a butter icing. Really wash your hands or use gloves. Coat the cake shapes with butter icing. The icing will freeze. Take advantage of warm hands and smooth the shape of Lego.
Watch youtube instructions on how to ice a wedding cake. It will tell you how to roll and fold icing onto the cake. With the head, I just applied in little pieces and rounded it all together. Put a shard of iceblock stick into the body and head to steady it.
Have faith in yourself. Get a clear picture of what you want in your head. Create it in Lego for real and copy what you see. That is how I made the coolest Lego cake. My son was wowed and so were his mates.
