When my good friend asked me to do this Lego Ninjago birthday cake my first response was “What??” … after looking up what a Lego Ninjago was I was intimidated! Being that she was a really good friend and her little guy has a special place in my heart I did not want to let either one of them down!!
I pre made all of the Lego pieces out of fondant. I used a Wilton cake tip to make the little round circles and placed them individually on top. I baked a 6″ cake and put it in the freezer. Then I baked 2 9×13 cakes and put them in the freezer. When I was ready to decorate I took them out.
I started with the 6″ cake. I shaved it down to the shape I wanted it, stuck a piece of doweling in it and stood it in a piece of foam then covered it with a very thin layer of butter cream. I colored the fondant as needed and started decorating.
For the 9×13 I took them out of the freezer, iced the top of one with butter cream and put the other cake on top. Covered very lightly with butter cream then rolled my fondant and started decorating!
This particular cake turned out to be A LOT easier than I originally thought it was going to be.
