I made a Lightning McQueen birthday cake for my grandson’s 4th birthday party. For the 1st time I hired a Wilton’s Lightning McQueen cake tin and bought a packet of cake mix. I followed the instructions but suffered to get a bright red and a bright black color with my butter icing. At last I bought white margarine and red and black powder food coloring and that really worked! You just have to be patient; in the beginning the red also looked pink and the black still looked grey, but after a while it turned into a bright red and a bright black – suitable for a Lightning McQueen car.
For the other colors I still used liquid food coloring. At the end I bought a packet of “Cars icing decorations” to put in front of the candles. It looked very nice and my grandson and his friends enjoyed it very much.
Fabulous! Thanks for the tips for red and black icing.
Your candles are very pretty. It makes your cake special.
