My sister-in-law and I just love baking cakes for our children’s birthdays. After doing a few birthdays, we finally came to the conclusion that this cake was the most gorgeous. We made this cake for my baby boy who turned three. We got a lot of ideas from this site and here is how we made our Lightning McQueen birthday cake.
We used a Wilton 3D cruiser pan to bake the cake and then carved it to the right shape. We pushed wafer biscuits into the back for the spoiler on the car’s rear. We then covered the cake with red buttercream icing. We traced the outlines for the windows, eyes, lights and other car details on wax paper and then, using these outlines, cut the fondant icing. We then scraped away bits of the red buttercream from where the fondant icing would go, and then stuck the fondant pieces in. This gave the impression that the fondant was part of the other icing and not just stuck on top.
For the wheels, we used oreo biscuits covered with black fondant. Bits of cake were also cut away where we placed the wheels. We covered the cake board with checkered paper and decifix.
