The Lightning McQueen cake was for my son’s 3rd birthday! This is my first time covering a cake in fondant. I have been making cakes now for 4 years and really enjoy the time spent making them. For the body of this cake, I used two 9×13 sheet cakes and for the cab I used one 6 inch round. To make carving the cakes easier, I put them in the freezer for 24 hrs. I made butter-cream frosting from scratch to cover the whole cake. Over the frosting I used homemade marshmallow fondant dyed with Wilton colors.
All the decals were cut from fondant using freehand or templates I found online. I printed the “Rust-eze” tag from the internet. For the wheels, I used some leftover frozen cake covered in black fondant.I would however recommend using rice crispy treats because they are more stable.
