My friend’s son was a huge Lord of the Rings fan, so she purchased a few figurines to put on top of this Lord of the Rings birthday cake.
I made a 1/2 sheet cake and frosted it. Then I sprayed it with green food color to get a “hazy” kind of look. (Note about using spray-on food color: make sure your cake is close to room temp. when you spray it on; otherwise it makes little dot-bubbles instead of an even-looking spray.)
I baked an 8″ round cake & cut off about 1/3 of it, turned it on its side and stuck it on top to create “Bag End.” I frosted Bag End, drawing on the door and window, and putting a huge glob of green frosting for the bush in front. The pathway was just lines of brown frosting leading away from the door.
I also sprayed yellow frosting around the sides of the cake before putting on the border just to add more color. I considered putting the elvish wording for the ring around the sides of the cake, but ran out of energy at that point.
