My work was having a Luau party and I was asked to bring a cake. I came onto this website to check out some homemade Luau party cake ideas and decided to make the “Tiki” face that was on the paper plates someone bought for the party.
I used two 9”x13” layers and slightly “shaved” the corners of the top layer to round it out a bit more to look like a log. I saw another cake on this site that had lines in the frosting to look like wood and I thought that was cute so I decided to use that for mine by using a fork to make the log lines. The chocolate frosting is homemade and the face itself is marshmallow fondant which was cut free-handed, except for the eyes.
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!! I JUST finished this cake for my daughter’s luau birthday party tomorrow and it came out AWESOME!! I didn’t have the neon green which I think looks better, but the idea is great! This was my first time using fondant so I was a little scared, but it worked great! I did two layers of cake since there are a lot of people coming. One layer was strawberry and the other pineapple, both box cakes. For the frosting I didn’t want to use chocolate so I used cream cheese frosting, again store bought (I’m making so much other food I didn’t have time to make it) and dyed it brown. Three hours of work for a lifetime of memories, works for me!!!
I can’t believe I am just now seeing this comment! I haven’t been on this site in a while and just got an e-mail about it and it reminded me to get on here. I am so glad your cake worked out! I have made it a couple of times since, one actually standing up- it was a 4 layer tall 6 inch round cake with the same features. So much fun. :) Thank you for the nice comment!
