I made this cake for my friend’s daughter’s 3RD birthday party. Maggie and the ferocious beast are relatively new cartoon characters so it was difficult to find a picture of them to help in creating a cake. I found a pic on the internet.
I baked a 13×9 sheet of a basic box of lemon cake mix. I made a single batch of homemade lemon buttercream with fresh lemon juice. When I tried to tint the colors, I had some difficulty getting the black really black, it was more like a hunter green color. I think it is because I used fresh lemon juice instead of extract. Luckliy, I had a can of chocolate icing in the pantry and I tinted the chocolate black….which worked out fine! I used a #5 round tip for all of the outlines and several star tips to fill in the characters. I used a cake board that was almost the exact size as the cake. I think that next time I will opt for a larger board b/c I barely had room for a shell boarder.
When I brought the cake into the party, my friend was so happy she cried.
