My son is a huge Super Mario Bros fan so I HAD to give him a Mario Brothers Birthday Cake for his 5th birthday! I used regular tinted green buttercream for the base icing, then made Mario, the mushrooms, stars out of fondant.
The Mario I made was pretty thick fondant so it took 1 1/2 days to dry, when making this, make sure you account for dry time, you don’t want to add a moist Mario to a soft cake! I used the same green buttercream to pipe grass as well.
I had some primary star sprinkles that matched the lettering so I added them as well. I used white liner icing to make the name letters on the the fondant stars. I used cookie cutters to make the stars.
This cake is awesome! I am looking for inspiration for my son’s b-day cake and this sure fits the bill. I am not sure I can handle the fondant but I have about a month to practice. Congratulations, you do beautiful work!
my son is a Mario fan too! another idea is to put eyes on the mushrooms as well.
I love this cake! My daughter wants a Mario party and I’m looking for ideals. Very impressive work!
