Coolest Medieval Castle Cake

This medieval castle cake was made for my husband’s 30th birthday party. I love making cakes and this one was so fun, it was the first tiered cake I’ve ever made at home. I used 3 large containers of supermarket bakery icing and 3 boxes of cake mix. There were supports in the bottom tier and a cake cardboard under the small top tier. The bottom was made of 5 thin layers and the top 2 thicker layers.

The pillars are made of ice cream cones and are covered in royal icing. I used stacks of upside down cake cones for the pillars and sugar cones for the spires. I covered the spires using a rose 102 tip with butter cream. They were very heavy, and ended up falling due to the extremely soft cake. I would have used a cardboard the size of the bottom tier as a support for the pillars on top, if I had the chance to go back. Also, if you want to recreate this cake, I recommend using a small cardboard on the top to support the top pillar.

My inspiration for this cake was watching Cake Boss for the past few weeks and wanting to make a fancy cake. I looked at lots of pictures online and grabbed ideas from many different cakes that I saw.

I hope this cake will inspire you to create something unique and special!
