I made this Mickey Mouse 3 Tier Cake for my son’s third birthday party. He loves Micky Mouse.
I baked two tiers in round pans and the third (Mickey hat) was baked in a small round Pyrex bowl. I crumb coated all in buttercream icing and then covered in fondant. All of the shapes were cut from fondant using cookie cutters or fondant cutters. The Mickey shapes were just made from different size circle shapes.
I piped my son’s name on the Mickey shape on the second tier with buttercream icing. The border was made using colored gum balls. The Mickey ears for the hat are also made from fondant I let dry so it was hard enough to stand up. I cut small slits in to the hat cake and inserted the ears and used tooth picks to give it more support. I also piped black buttercream icing on the back of the ears to hide the toothpicks and give extra support.
To make the cake shiny I painted a thin layer of water over the entire cake with a food safe brush. The stars on the top were just candles I found at Walmart.
This cake was one of the easier and faster I have made. Everyone at the party was really impressed and thought I spent a lot of time on it. My son also loved it.
I’m am speechless, this cake looks amazing. I have been searching for days on end, finding the perfect cake for my two year old son who adores Mickey Mouse. I came across yours, and was completely shocked you made this. It looks so difficult, but when I read the instructions it all seemed so easy. The pan sizes I used were 10″ & 8″ with top tier being made out of small Pyrex bowl. I didn’t use any special recipe for the cake. My son loves the boxed “funfetti” cake flavor so that is what I used. Thanks for all the comments.
Sorry I forgot to answer about the fondant….I just used the Wilton boxed fondant that I colored. Thanks again.

I am going to practice making a similar cake for my son’s 2nd birthday. He is all about Mickey Mouse and I wanted to do something different from the supermarket cake. I will post pictures!

I just made 1 cake in each of the sizes I listed and then torted and filled them to get the height thanks!

I read how you made this and it looks incredible! I read that you paint the cake with water; you should try a steamer! I also used to paint my cakes with water, until I read about using a steamer. I got a little portable one from WalMart for like $20. It it SO much quicker and easier. Do it once and I guarantee you will love how much time it saves =)
WOW! This is awesome. I was afraid to try making my grandson’s cake for his birthday who also adores Mickey. After seeing this, and with your tips, I think I just might can do it! One question, Did you freeze your cakes before you iced them? Ive heard doing that makes icing much easier. Thanks for sharing this!

THANK You for all the wonderful comments! To answer your question Kay, no I never freeze my cakes I think it makes them taste bad. I do a frost and then let it set in the refrigerator until it crusts then I go back and smooth it. Sorry I didnreply sooner I just got the notification in my email that there was a comment :)
