My daughter is having 2 birthday celebrations this year. She had a Cinderella party at home on Sunday and will be having a second celebration in school tomorrow. She likes Playhouse Disney and so I decided to make her a Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake, or rather a Minnie Mouse Cake for this school celebration.
Cupcakes are much easier to distribute to pre-schoolers but design can be limited. So I decided to make a mini cake for cutting in addition to the cupcakes.
I used half of the Wilton ball pan to make the cake and covered in with chocolate fondant. For the ears, I used digestive biscuits and covered them with chocolate fondant as well. I cut 2 slits on the dome cake and slip the 2 digestive ears in them. I then added decorations like the bow as well as fondant cutouts of her name. The figurines are from my daughter’s mega blocks play set.
Since the mini cake is dark brown, I decided to give the cupcakes strong primary colours of red, blue and yellow. I sprinkled pastel sprinkles and topped them off with Mickey Mouse cupcake rings.
This is a very simple design, but the effect is good especially with the colourful cupcakes. Very easy to make too.
I love this. I’m trying to duel party for my 1 year old boy and 3 year old girl. I’m going to try two hats (one for each child). Thanks for the idea!
