I spotted a similar Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake Design on Google images for a Minnie Mouse cake and was asked by my cousin if I could adapt it to suit her 2 year old son who was mad about Mickey Mouse. The base of the cake is made of lemon Madeira cake, the head and ears are chocolate Madeira. The template for the cake came from my 22year old daughter’s Mickey Mouse, which she has had since her 1st Christmas.
The most difficult part of the cake was the ears. I couldn’t figure out how to do them and in the end I used a large plain cookie cutter. The cake in the ears was extra from the top of the head. I always bake my cakes so that they require to be trimmed when cooled. I have been making novelty cakes for less than a year and feel I am progressing well and with each new challenge my confidence is growing. My advice to anyone is enjoy what you do no matter how it looks when decorated it is your creation be proud of it.
This cake is one of the many cakes my cousin Maureen has baked. There is no end to her talents. She takes great pride in her work. Not only do the cakes look good, they taste fantastic !!!!!! Keep up the good work !!!!
Great job – love the cake.
