This Mickey Mouse cake was made using an 8inch round for the base and a football tin (2 hemispheres) for head. Two small round tins were used for ears.
Having baked chocolate fudge sponge cake – cakes were frozen for 24hrs to make it easier to carve and ice.
Our family all have objections to sugar past – FAKE ICING the kids call it – I think that’s cos its whats on bought cakes so they associate it with commercial baking and not home baking. I always have to use Chocolate Fudge Icing or Butter Icing. Harder to colour and you never get as smooth a finish but I’d prefer to use what I know everyone will eat!!
Chocolate fudge icing was used on the head – milk chocolate with black food colouring and white chocolate with yellow and red food colouring on face. Butter icing with red colouring for base
Roll out icing for white lettering, balls and coloured black for smile and nose. Head was assembled and ears attached using fudge icing. Nose was carved out of front. Base and head were iced separately and then assembled.
This cake went down a treat. My goddaughter was only 1 but nearly jumped into the box when I opened it at the party for her.
