My daughter was (and still is!) a huge Mickey Mouse Clubhouse fan so it seemed appropriate that we have a super special cake for her second birthday!
I baked a chocolate cake, using a regular 9 x 13 pan, and frosted it with green buttercream icing for the grass on a rectangular cake board. I then used colored fondant for the clubhouse, fence and hand. I was going to use white fondant and color it, but decided since so much effort was going into the design, I’d rather it was already done. The only color I had to make was black. It was pretty easy because the directions were on the box, but a bit messy. I used cake decorating gloves and that helped a lot.
I tried just shaping the fondant, but realized it was using up too much, so I altered my plan. I used aluminum foil, and then molded the fondant around it. This worked just fine, except that no one could eat the fondant, but that was not a priority of mine, so it was okay. I also used toothpicks to hold everything into place, which I would recommend as long as you count the toothpicks used so nothing is left behind in the cake!
I then used my Pampered Chef easy accent decorator (very easy!) to add a border around the edge of the cake, some flowers on the “yard”, and to write my daughters name and birthday number (as you can see!) Add a Mickey candle, and it all fell into place! Thanks for this awesome site!
